Course Information:
This course will focus on advanced drawing skills and techniques as well as many printmaking techniques that will enhance these drawing skills. The course begins with a focus on representational drawing and will move toward less realistic drawing and more creative self-expression. Emphasis will be placed on mark making and the development of a personal style. In this class, students will use pencil, pen, charcoal, chalk and oil pastels,as well as learning monoprinting, etching, block printing and lithography techniques. Students will be able to promote and share their ideas through class discussion and group techniques.

Knowledge:
Understand and utilize the different definitions, supplies, rules, and techniques required for monoprinting, etching, and block printing
Identify and create drawings and prints utilizing the 5 major themes of art; portrait, figure, still life, landscape, and non-objective art
Technique:
Understand and demonstrate accurate shading techniques when drawing from life using a variety of drawing media
Demonstrate proper printmaking techniques using monoprinting, etching, and block printing
Create artwork utilizing the 5 major themes of art
Understand the concept of visual communication and begin to develop a personal voice in their own work.
Demonstrate proper mounting and matting techniques
Analysis:
Critically analyze and evaluate and compare personal work with the work of other in a written format as well as becoming familiar with participating in group critiques

AR120 – Art Foundations
Notes: Seniors may be exempt from prerequisite with instructor approval
