Darien Elementary School (3-4)

Dear parents of Darien Elementary School students, We are excited to collaborate with you on the achievement of your child at our upcoming parent teacher conferences. Parent conferences will be a little different this fall with them being held by a phone call between parents and teachers on Tuesday, October 20th between 4:00-8:00 PM. There will not be any scheduled conferences this year. Parents should call at their convenience between 4-8PM. Please check your Class Dojo messages for your child's teachers and their phone extensions. On Tuesday, Oct. 20th, please call any of the staff that you would like to speak to regarding your child’s progress at school. If you call and the line is busy, please leave a message for the teacher and he/she will return your call when available. If you need someone to translate the meeting, please call Ms. Perez at 262-233-6409 and she will coordinate a conference call with the teacher. Although we cannot meet in person this year, we do look forward to hearing from you and discussing your child’s progress. Your child’s MAP report was sent home prior to these conferences as well. Third grade students were busy working through an experiment recently during Science class. Ask your third grader what they've learned while doing this activity.

Darien 4th graders had a special guest, Mr. Sawtelle bring in some piglets to show the students. The students asked questions, made predictions and wrote stories related to the piglets.

Third graders are learning about Georgia O’Keeffe paintings during art class. Look at some of their amazing work!

Staff took advantage of the beautiful weather on Thursday and worked on math outside. What a great way to take advantage of the great weather to work on math!

Congratulations are in order for two sets of Darien award winners. Too Score winners for September as well as the Most Improved student award winners were recognized this morning. Congratulations on all! We are proud of you!

Over the past 2 days, Darien staff met to discuss grade level data, classroom data, and each students progress. Plans are being put into place to continue imrpoving each child's math and reading score. Parents are asked to have their child read and practice math at home too!

It's been an exciting week for many 4th graders as they have recieved their strings instruments if they are choosing to participate in orchestra. Here student are learning proper techniques for holding their instruments. Please encourage students to practice at home too!

Students in 4th grade are learning about various bones in the body with the help of Mr. Kanoff (PE teacher) and Mr. Bones. Today they felt their patella.

Classroom rewards COVID style: lunch and a movie with Starbucks earned and saved by students for the class reward.

Darien students were able to select a book from a variety of books after they got their school photo taken yesterday. This was made possible through a grant written by Mrs. Nixon & Mrs. Pickel with the Boys & Girls Club and the Madison Reading Project. Happy Reading!

These students were drawn from the PBIS random drawing bucket as winners recently. When students earn a Starbuck they choose whether to save it for a classroom incentive item or place in the random drawing bucket. Congratulations!

Darien students who participated in the Summer Bookmobile Reading and turned in their summer reading calendars were treated to a special treat, recieved a book of their choice, a pencil and a certificate. Keep on reading kids!

This month is Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15) Today's celebration activity at Darien was to wear a hispanic country dress, outfit, or colors of one of the hispanic country flags. Check out a few of the outfits and colors that were on display in our hallways today!
